The University of Dayton, Department of Religious Studies seeks applications for the Gudorf Chair in Catholic Intellectual Traditions.
This new endowed chair, the second established by Ken and Evie Gudorf in the Department of Religious Studies, will hold the rank of tenured professor or associate professor. The Gudorf Chair in Catholic Intellectual Traditions will serve the Department, College, University, and academy through the scholarly retrieval, interpretation, and presentation of Catholic doctrinal and theological traditions.
The University of Dayton welcomes applications from Catholic scholars whose work on Catholic doctrine and theology reflects the global diversity of the Universal Church. The Gudorf Chair will offer classes at the doctoral, masters, and undergraduate levels. The Chair’s work will have a particular emphasis on undergraduate education, with regard both to promoting innovative programs for undergraduate majors and to increasing awareness and appreciation of Catholic intellectual traditions among all undergraduate students. The Gudorf Chair will engage in the life of the department and will work collaboratively to advance the awareness and appreciation of Catholic doctrinal and theological traditions among all members of the University community.
To pursue this ambitious scholarly, pedagogical, and service agenda, the Gudorf Chair will teach three courses per academic year, to be determined in consultation with the chair of the Department of Religious Studies. In addition to generous support for research sabbaticals, the Gudorf Chair will have a research and travel budget, and the service of a graduate assistant. As part of the Chair’s public role, the Chair will offer a yearly public address on a topic concerning Catholic doctrinal and theological traditions.
Required Qualifications:
1) A Ph.D. in Theology (or equivalent degree, e.g. Religious Studies, ThD, STD);
2) A distinguished record of scholarly publication in the field of Catholic theology;
3) Research agenda with focus on scholarly retrieval, interpretation, and presentation of Catholic doctrinal and theological traditions to aid in the formation of students and faculty in Catholic intellectual traditions;
4) Record of teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with the criteria for tenure and appointment at the rank of associate professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Dayton;
5) Demonstrated success in developing programming related to undergraduate education;
6) Demonstrated record of collaborative work at the departmental, unit, or college/university level.
In addition to the above requirements, appointment at the rank of Professor requires a record of teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with the criteria for promotion to the rank of Professor in the College of Arts and Science at the University of Dayton.

3) Sample of current research (not to exceed 35 pages);
4) Evidence of teaching success which may include syllabi, student evaluations, or
