The Department of Religious Studies at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit Catholic university, invites applications for a full-time, open rank tenure stream position to begin Fall 2023 in Latinx Theologies. Candidates hired at the rank of associate or full professor may also be eligible for the Michael J Buckley SJ Endowed professorship in Catholic theology. The area of Christian theological specialization (theological anthropology, Christology, doctrine of God, pneumatology, liberation theology, etc.) is open. Preference will be given to candidates whose research focuses on Latinx communities in USA contexts and who engage the lived religious experiences of these communities. Candidates should demonstrate potential for excellent teaching, promise of a research program leading to scholarly publication, a capacity for service to the department, College, University, and profession, and understand and support the University’s Jesuit, Catholic mission. We are particularly interested in candidates familiar with inclusive pedagogical practices that would advance SCU goals of diversity and equity, and with demonstrated experience teaching and mentoring a diverse population of undergraduate students.

Minimum qualifications include completion of the doctoral degree by the time of appointment, evidence of potential for effective and excellent university-level teaching primarily at the undergraduate level, and evidence of an agenda for scholarship and promise of peer-reviewed publication. This position will also support the department Graduate Program in Pastoral Ministries.  This position is part of a cluster hire in Race, Inequality, and Social Justice.  The six participating departments in SCU’s College of Arts and Sciences are Art & Art History, English, Political Science, Psychology, Public Health, and Religious Studies.

The application deadline is October 2, 2022.  For information on the department, visit https://www.scu.edu/religiousstudies;  the full posting for this position, including detailed job description and application instructions, is available through https://www.scu.edu/hr/careers/

Please direct questions and letters of recommendation to religiousstudies@scu.edu.
