    U.S. Catholic Historian

    Future Issue:

    Health and Healthcare

For forty years the U.S. Catholic Historian has published theme-based issues relevant to the history of American Catholicism.  An upcoming issue will address the theme of U.S. Catholicism and health/healthcare. Contributions could include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • The histories and contributions of Catholic hospitals and clinics
    • The role of religious women and men in serving as nurses and administrators of hospitals and hospital systems
    • Catholic responses to health emergencies, including cholera, yellow fever, and influenza pandemics, the AIDS crisis, etc.
    • Tensions between healthcare and Catholic identity, including application of the U.S.
    • Bishops’ Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services

Scholars considering a submission are asked to contact the editor, Fr. David Endres at DEndres@mtsm.org before preparing a contribution. Approximate length is 7,000-10,000 words. We ask for submissions by August 1, 2023 and look forward to hearing from potential contributors.
