    Position Summary


    The School of Theology and Seminary (SOT/Sem) at Saint John’s University, Collegeville, MN announces a tenure-track faculty position in Practical/Pastoral Theology at the level of Assistant Professor, to begin in the Fall Semester, 2023. The successful candidate will be able to teach a variety of courses related to practical theology and ministry in the context of global Catholicism.  In addition to teaching, this position includes serving as the project director for Saint John’s Sustained Encuentro Phase 3 Pathways Grant, funded by the Lilly Endowment (https://www.csbsju.edu/sot/sem/events/news/sustained-encuentro-announcement).

    Responsibilities

    The position’s teaching load is defined as 3-3 annually with release time of up to 3 courses to direct the Sustained Encuentro grant. Working with the Dean, faculty and administrative staff, the Project Director will (1) coordinate curricular initiatives for diaconal candidates and lay ecclesial ministers from rural and mission dioceses, with special attention to Latino/a leaders; (2) cultivate and support on-going relationships with Catholic bishops and diocesan offices to recruit students; and (3) oversee faculty development, a summer rural ministry immersion experience, and shared courses with the SOT/Sem’s strategic partner, the Mexican American Catholic College of San Antonio, Texas.


    Qualifications

    Successful candidates will display theological and ecclesial understanding of pastoral theology and hold M.Div. and Ph.D. degrees or their equivalents by August 30, 2023. To that end, they will also demonstrate promise of sustained excellence in teaching, including online pedagogy, research, and service in the School and profession. They possess knowledge of one or more areas of ministerial practice, such as congregational studies, pastoral care, catechetics, homiletics, justice ministries, rural ministry, spirituality and spiritual direction, and intercultural ministry, most especially with Hispanic and Asian American communities.  They show ability to contribute to a broad theological curriculum within larger ecumenical, intercultural, and global contexts.  In addition, successful candidates will indicate a well-defined research focus with related publishing agenda. We also invite candidates to share ministry and/or administrative experience that may pertain to the position.
