The School of Arts and Sciences at Gwynedd Mercy University, a Catholic institution sponsored by the Religious Sisters of Mercy, invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor in Religious Studies to begin August 2019.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A PhD in religious studies or theology is required. The ideal candidate is a generalist who can teach scriptures, morality, church history, Christology, systematic/fundamental theology, and world religions, as well as someone with a demonstrated track record of excellence in teaching and scholarship.

Candidates should be able to articulate how their teaching, scholarship, and/or service aligns with and contributes to the University’s commitment to social justice through the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy: earth, immigration, non-violence, racism and women.

Gwynedd Mercy University believes that diversity in our campus community enriches the educational experience of its students by providing them with the opportunity to learn from individuals of various backgrounds. Because of this belief, Gwynedd Mercy strongly encourages applicants from traditionally underrepresented groups who are committed to our mission to apply for our faculty openings. Please visit gmercyu.edu for information regarding our mission, core values, and beliefs.

For full consideration, applicants should submit a curriculum vita, three letters of recommendation, teaching evaluations, and a statement of teaching philosophy by November 26, 2018.

Candidates chosen for campus interviews will be expected to provide official undergraduate and graduate transcripts before they can be hired. In addition to applying online, applicants can send additional requested documents to HR@gmercyu.edu (please include job title and code).

    ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
Gwynedd Mercy University is a Catholic university with a strong foundation in the liberal arts. Our academic distinction lies in the intersection of excellent programs in health care, education, and business administration, which prepares students to become leaders in the region's powerful and growing life-sciences industry. Our enrollment of nearly 2,500 students and prime location within minutes of Philadelphia means that we're large enough to offer a vibrant campus life but small enough that professors can develop mentoring relationships with students. We educate students in the Mercy tradition of service to society, preparing graduates who not only find jobs but also create lives and careers with deep meaning.

Founded in 1948 by the Sisters of Mercy, the University offers more than 40 associate's, bachelor's and master's degree programs on a full- and part-time basis. In the 2008 edition of the U.S.News and World Report's America's Best Colleges, Gwynedd Mercy University ranks among the top master's-level universities in the north.

Gwynedd Mercy University students enjoy a vibrant, collegiate campus life highlighted by its 19 NCAA Division III men's and women's sports teams and opportunities to pursue interests through 24 clubs and activities. The University has four residence halls with a variety of living options, a gym and access to indoor track and outside basketball and tennis courts. There are four eateries on campus where students can grab a coffee on the run, get pizza and sandwiches or sit down to all-you-can eat meals. The University is situated on 160 beautiful acres close to a variety of shops and eateries and just a short ride away to the city excitement of Philadelphia.

The College Theology Society is a registered, non-profit professional society and a Related Scholarly Organization of the American Academy of Religion.
